Your Savior From "Hidden Bugs" and "Dangerous
Nightmares"!
Here I have included misc. bug fixes of all sorts, some of
them my own, others I have collected from all over.... in
such places as forums as well as on other sitesand if
that site still exists where the problem fix is listed I have
put a direct link to it's exact location on that site. Hope
this is of help to some of those having the "Hidden Bugs"
and "Dangerous Nightmares" experience!!! Do remember
this, once you get H&D going nicely, it is an wonderful
dream to play!!
Screen
Goes Blue/Gray
after mission: Or at least, this is typically where
it happens. This is a well known problem and only happens
on computers with Voodoo based video cards such as the Banshee
and Voodoo3. The cause for the problem is the H&D "Insanity"
game engine's enterpitation of some of the post DirectX 7
drivers for Voodoo based video cards (but it is NOT due to
DX7 itself!) and some of the newer drivers for the nVidia
cards.
The universal solution to the problem is often just upgrading
the drivers to the very latest ones... I repeat, VERY LATEST!
To get the latest drivers you can either go to Windrivers.com
or to the video card manufacturers website. However, if this
does not fix the problem --- which in many cases it does not
--- then install the DX6 or earlier drivers over the existing.
The DX6 drivers can be found in the following places:
On the drivers CD that came with your computer or video
card.
For 3dfx Voodoo video
cards the DX6 as well as the latest drivers can be downloaded
from www.voodoo.dk in
the drivers section.
For the Banshee try the manufacturers website. If the manufacturers do not have the DX6 drivers available anymore, (most don't) a cool place to find old out of date drivers is DriversGuide.com. If all else fails, I have included Banshee DX6 drivers in the A+ Downloads section of this site.
For nVidia drivers go to www.nvidia.com
and find them in the support / drivers section.
NOTE: It is ok to install older drivers over the newer ones,
and normally has no negative affect. DX6 drivers work fine
with DX7. DX7 Drivers do not work with DX6 however!
Three
Beeps and Your OUT: The 3 beep problem is not a PIII
problem, regardless of what they say, I have been getting
them on my AMD K6-2 system since the beginning. I found later
the problem was actually due to the VIDEO card drivers! Rather,
when I turn off triple buffer it happens much less, and when
I stopped using my cracked voodoo3 drivers it went away almost
totally...
On my system, one of the the ways of knowing I am going to get a 3 beep is that the music starts looping, screwing up, and then I get 3 beeps the next time I pick up an item or drop one... or even jump my man. The registry fix, if you open and read it, is adjusting something for the video, and on some systems it fixes the problem, on others it has no affect, or even negative affect.
